Admission criteria for Undergraduate Certificate in Accounting / Undergraduate Certificate in Business / Diploma of Business / Diploma in Applied Finance and Accounting


Applicants with higher education study

Applicants whose highest level of study enrolment since leaving secondary education is a higher education course, whether at a university or non-university provider.

Entry Requirements
Completion, or substantial completion (75%), of an AQF Diploma or higher award from an Australian, accredited higher education provider.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is availableand will be assessed in accordance with IMC's RPL policy and procedure. Please refer to the Application for Recognition of Prior Learning and the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy for further details.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

Applicants whose highest level of study enrolment since leaving secondary education is a VET course.

Completion of an AQF Certificate IV course in a business studies area from TAFE College or any Registered Training Organisation.

Applicants with work and life experience (includes those who left secondary education more than two years ago)

Applicants who left secondary education more than two years ago and have not undertaken VET or higher education study since.

Entry Requirements

  1. Completion of the NSW Higher School Certificate within five years prior to application. Or
  2. Have work experience of two years full-time paid employment to apply for a Diploma. Work experience is to be in a business-related field. Part-time equivalents are acceptable.

a) Evidence of capability, including skills and attributes;
b) Evidence of employment and work experience, including the level of responsibility and type of work;

  • Where appropriate, an interview with, and determination by, the Dean.
  • Applicants may be required to submit a study plan based on their academic performance.

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)

Applicants whose admission is based mostly on secondary education undertaken at school, TAFE or other VET or higher education provider (Australian or overseas equivalent) that was completed (or will be) in the current year or within the previous two years.

Entry Requirements
Completion of the NSW Higher School Certificate(HSC).

Applicants with higher education study

Applicants whose highest level of study enrolment since leaving secondary education is a higher education course, whether at a university or non-university provider.

Entry Requirements

  1. Completion of at least one semester of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at a registered Australian higher education provider at AQF Level 5 Diploma or higher. OR
  2. Have completed a bridging or enabling course from a qualified provider(1) and achieved 50% of the full mark.

Admission Pathway

If students do not meet the standard criteria for a bachelor’s degree, they may be considered for admission into the Diploma of Business or Diploma of Applied Finance and Accounting under the Admission Pathway scheme.

English Language Proficiency

All applicants with overseas qualifications applying for business programs at the Sydney City School of Business must provide evidence of English proficiency by completing an approved language test and meeting a minimum standard of achievement.Check HERE for requirements.
