Hon Victor Dominello, NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Launches TOP Schools of Law and Business "Innovation Matters" Speaker Series

Last night (Dec 7), the Hon Victor Dominello, MP, Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, launched a special series sponsored by TOP’s Schools of Law and Business. The series was timely given with the Prime Minister’s announcement in Canberra yesterday of a $1 Billion dollar fund to sponsor innovation.

The Minister described the goals of his portfolio and explained how the NSW government will work to not only support innovation but also lead by example as NSW and Australia move from a mining led economy to an Information economy that will increasingly rely on innovation at every level of activity.

The "Innovation Matters!" series will be held in the Australia Technology Park which is Australia’s most successful hub of technology innovation with almost 100 technology and other start-ups. The Park has recently been sold and will receive a substantial development boost from Mirvac which will co-locate 10,000+ Commonwealth Bank employees there and expand the facilities to include child care centres, gymnasium, restaurants, bars, sporting amenities. The project also involves the establishment of an innovation fund to support technology start-ups. These new arrangements will further enhance the ecosystem required for successful innovation by bringing together a community of professionals from multiple disciplines, including: finance, technology, business and law.

According to Professor Sam Blay, Deputy Principal and Professor of Law at TOP, “TOP’s School of Law and School of Business are most fortunate to be situated in the heart of the Australia Technology Park—Australia’s Silicon Valley. The Top Education Institute is dedicated to offering excellent teaching, research and community service which will further support and enhance the ATP’s threefold mission of promoting innovation, sustainability and community development.”

Future topics to be covered in the series include intellectual property, information security, information governance, promotion of an ecosystem of entrepreneurship, and e-Leadership, i.e. the role of technology in bringing about transformational change, and theories of innovation.

The next event in TOP's Innovation Matters! Speaker Series will take place on 13th January and will feature US Professor of Entrepreneurship, Mark Weaver.
