 Unit Overview:

This unit serves as an introduction to the study of Business Management. It is designed to integrate the major theories with real world applications in order to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills needed for managing business in the 21st century.

This unit begins with a discussion of the foundation of management, its evolution, as well as current issues affecting managers and organisations. The unit then proceeds to cover the traditional yet critical functions of management with the understanding of planning, organising, leading and controlling.

By the end of the unit, students will be able to identify the principles of managing organisations, recognise the various challenges faced by today’s managers and demonstrate competence through the application of theoretical concepts and examples of organisations engaging in the management functions of planning, organising, leading and controlling.
