FinTech + Research Programs FAQs

The FinTech & Research Programs are designed to provide comprehensive learning curriculums for international students seeking to work or upskill within the Financial Services sector and/or research area. Currently, the financial services industry is being transformed by digital technology which has resulted in a high demand for specialised skill sets, such as those offered within these bespoke programs.

Below, you can find commonly asked questions about our programs:


1. Are there any prerequisites for completing this course such as GMAT, GPA scores, UCAS points or Degree grades? 

For Coursework programs there are no special prerequisites, just standard admission requirements (a bachelor degree) and IELTS requirements. Please refer to Postgraduate Entry Requirements which are listed under each Course Information section. Students can search for a preferred course from the IMC homepage or by clicking Here to explore all the postgraduate courses.

2. Is the qualification accredited by a professional organisation?

Currently, there is no professional organisation in this fast changing industry accrediting FinTech courses. IMC does have a Memorandum of Understanding with the industry body FinTech Australia and our programs are listed on its website fintechaustralia.org.au 

3. Can I be exempt from certain levels due to past experiences or other qualifications?

We have a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy in place. Please refer to our website page should you require further information RPL results will be dependent on the individual student’s background.

In regards to past work experiences, unfortunately this will not be considered as we will only accept qualifications.

4. Can I study Micro Credential course/s during the Graduate Certificate (GC) /Graduate Diploma (GD) /Master's Degree , and then apply for credit after completing the courses?

Yes, if a student successfully completes the Micro Credential (MC) FinTech courses, the students may be eligible to apply for the RPL for TTEC601 Financial Technology and the Digital Economy in the Digital Economy.

5. I'm a Bachelor graduate in Business/other areas. Am I eligible to apply for the FinTech & Research Program? Will I be able to get an exemption?

This is entirely dependent on the individual student’s background. He/she will need to meet the admission requirements. For the research component, applicants will be assessed on availability of appropriate supervision and resources.

6. Do I need to know how to code or have a programming background? Or Are we going to learn how to code?

These programs are designed for students who have no or little understanding of coding and programming and want to learn how to take full advantage of these skillsets. Coding and programming are taught within the program.

7. Am I able to request for Academic Support for my Business Proposal, for example: TRES6010 Planning and Writing a Research Design and Proposal?

As a Research student, you can most definitely request for Academic Support. Students will be placed into small groups where the Academic Team will provide ample support to ensure students are following a pathway that is tailored to their aims and objectives.

8. After I complete the Graduate Certificate in Business Research, am I eligible to apply for Master of Business Research at IMC?

This is entirely dependent on your academic performance, that is, your GPA and IMC’s capacity to supervise in your proposed area.

9. After I complete the Graduate Certificate in Business Research, am I eligible to apply for another university for their Master of Research or PhD programs?

You will need to check with your potential Higher Education Provider, whether they accept a Graduate Certificate in Business Research.

10. After I complete the GC/GD and progress onto Master of Applied Financial Technology and Blockchain or Master of Business Administration (FinTech Management), can I change to any other program at IMC?

Yes, you may be eligible to change to another other program at IMC. The units you can count for credit into a different program will depend upon the structure of the proposed program and its overlap with your current program.

11. If I already have a GC/GD certificate in the Financial area, can I apply for the Master of Applied Financial Technology and Blockchain directly?

Yes, you may be able to apply and also may be eligible to gain RPL too. Please refer to the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy and procedure for further details.

12. If I already have a GC/GD certificate in Business Administration, can I apply for the Master of Applied Financial Technology and Blockchain directly?

Yes, you may be able to apply and also may be eligible to gain RPL too. Please refer to the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy and procedure for further details.

13. Can I apply for the Master of Business Research directly? 

Yes, you may be able to apply for entry to our Master of Business Research directly. However, you will need to meet our entry requirements. Please refer to our website page for more information
