Referencing Workshop and Shut Up & Study Session | Week 4

Posted on 11 August 2025

The Academic Learning Team, composed of the Librarian, English Support Officer, and Perth Learning Facilitator, organised a “Referencing Workshop” in Week 4. The sessions were delivered in multiple formats – Onsite, Hybrid, and Online via Teams.

For the Workshop, 88% of participants gave a rating of 5 (excellent), while 13% gave a 4 (good). The workshop started with a valuable message, ‘Rules on Responsible and Ethical Use of AI in Assessments at IMC’, by Associate Professor Anil Hargovan, Director of Learning and Teaching. It was well-received by the students who attended. The Workshop shared great knowledge of ‘what, when and how’ to do referencing step by step, followed by some exercises together. Thanks to the lecturers promoting the Workshop, both new and current students participated, and they had many opportunities to ask questions to clarify their understanding. Based on student feedback, they learned how to 1) reference correctly and 2) focus on study. Some of the feedback also stated that the Workshop should be longer.

Also in Week 4, both onsite and online students participated in the Shut Up & Study (silent study) session. Most of the students were walk-ins on the day. The session was based on the Pomodoro Technique and also introduced the Cornell note-taking method at the beginning.
