Chair
Professor Keith Houghton
MSc BCom PhD FCA FCPA
Dr Houghton is an Emeritus Professor of the Australian National University (ANU), and is Chief Strategist at the Higher Education and Research Group (HERG) and a Principal of Research Coaching Australia (RCA). He previous appointments include as Dean of the College of Business and Economics of the ANU and a member of the University Council and the University level Finance Committee. He also served as Chair of the Academic Board at ANU. Prior to that he was Fitzgerald Professor of the University of Melbourne, including a period as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Commerce of that University.
Professor Houghton is active in the commercial world with a number of private sector consulting engagements both in Australia and Asia. He has provided both policy and strategy advice to Federal Government with Senator Simon Birmingham (then Minister of Education) citing Professor Houghton’s research as ground-breaking” (Australia Financial Review, 28 August 2017). Professor Houghton has published widely in major international research journals as well as Australian domestic scholarly journals. He has authored or co-authored four books with a further book (a case book on research and research methodology soon to appear) and around a hundred journal papers, research monographs and policy papers.
He has served on a number of international Editorials Boards (including The Accounting Review in the US and the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting in Europe). He continues to serve as an ad hoc reviewer of both domestic and international journals and funding agencies both in Australia (Australian Research Council -ARC -Discovery Grants, Linkage Grants and Laureate Fellowships) and overseas (including research funding agencies in the U.K., Canada, China and Qatar).
His research now includes contributions to the debate on government funding mechanisms and was called as a witness to the Parliamentary Inquiry on Funding Australia’s Research (August 2018). With others at HERG, he has been involved in the creation of the REEF (Research and Education Efficiency Frontier) Index.Professor Houghton is the Patron of the Melbourne based charity that supports those with dyslexia and their families – SPELD, and was a community nominated torch-bearer for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He has been awarded the Silver Medal of The University of Melbourne on two occasions.

Emeritus Professor Ed Davis AM

Professor Ed Davis is Emeritus Professor in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Macquarie University. He was Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Financial Studies at Macquarie from 2002 to 2008. He is an economist who has specialised in industrial relations. He has published four books, four monographs, and held editorial posts. He has published more than one hundred papers in Australian and international journals. During 1992 he held the post of Distinguished Academic Visitor at Queens’ College, Cambridge. He has extensive experience in University leadership. He was a member of the Senior Management Group at Macquarie, the Senate Executive Committee and the Discipline Committee. Other positions held included Chair of the University’s Equal Opportunity Committee; Chair of the Permanency/Probation Committee and Chair of the Promotions Appeal Committee. Since his retirement from Macquarie University in 2008 Professor Davis has undertaken assignments for a number of universities; these have included Chairing the Promotions Appeals Committee at the University of Western Sydney and chairing reviews of MBA programs at RMIT and AIM. He has assisted several universities with conflict resolution as a facilitator, mediator and investigator. Professor Davis is a former National President of the Industrial Relations Society of Australia. He is a past National Vice President and NSW President of ABC Friends. He was appointed a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 2006 for “service to education and to the community in the areas of equity in employment, industrial relations and human resource management”.

Alison Dean PhD is Emeritus Professor of Service Marketing and Management, University of Newcastle. Prior to joining Newcastle in 2005, Alison was employed at Monash University, having entered the tertiary sector from the electricity industry. She has held many leadership and management roles, including Deputy Head of Faculty, Faculty of Business & Law, Dean and Head, Newcastle Business School; and Assistant Dean roles in Teaching and Learning, and Research Training. Alison’s research agenda focuses on services marketing and management, and her studies have been published in a wide variety of high-quality journals.

Formerly Professor of Management, College of Business, University of Western Sydney, Research Director, Sydney Graduate School of Management, Professor of Management and Director of International Programs, Macquarie Graduate School of Management. He has been on the boards of Macquarie Graduate School of Management Pty. Ltd. and an Israeli start-up company, Rooster Notification Technology Ltd. He is currently on the international advisory board of UK based Emerald Group Publishing and is an active consultant to business and government.
Emerita Professor Philomena Leung

Professor Philomena Leung has been appointed the Director of Education at the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). Prior to this, she was Associate Dean – International at Macquarie University Sydney and Head and Professor of Accounting and Corporate Governance at Macquarie University since January 2010. Philomena was educated both in Hong Kong and Australia and has held various senior academic leadership roles including as Head of Accounting, Economics and Finance and Chair of Academic Board at Deakin University.
Philomena has published extensively in academic journals, in the areas of auditing, ethics, governance, and accounting education. She has published 18 research monographs, 28 refereed articles, 4 consultancy reports, and has received 22 research grants both nationally and internationally. Philomena has led major international research projects in ethics and internal auditing and was the lead researcher commissioned to develop a model for ethics education in accounting for 160 countries under the auspices of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). She had been joint editor of Managerial Auditing Journal (Emerald). She is the lead author of the text Audit and Assurance (Wiley). Philomena had twice been awarded for excellence for her editorship for Managerial Auditing Journal and was the first Chinese awardee for the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Bob McDonald award for her contribution to the internal audit profession.
Philomena is a pioneer in a number of innovative educational projects including the development of a non-accounting pathway to chartered accountancy, business innovation challenges for students and companies, and currently, in the world’s first competency-based microcredential framework for accounting certification for the IPA.
Philomena has a PhD (RMIT) and a Master of Accounting and Finance (Glasgow). She was an auditor with one of the international audit firms in Hong Kong before joining academia, and has held senior academic roles since 1976, in Hong Kong, Melbourne and Sydney. Philomena was recently appointed Professor Emerita (in perpetuity) at Macquarie University.
Emeritus Professor Dominic Verity

Dominic Verity is an Emeritus Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Macquarie University and a Professor in the Mathematical Sciences Institute of the Australian National University. For the past 20 years he has contributed to Macquarie as a research mathematician, as a highly regarded teacher of Computer Science (recognised nationally in 2011 by an ALTC citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning) and in numerous academic management and leadership roles. He served as Director of Postgraduate Programs in the Faculty Executive of Information and Communication Sciences (2001-2007), as Chair of the University Learning and Teaching Committee (2010-2013) and as Chair of Academic Senate and ex-officio member of the Macquarie University Council (2013-2016).
In the early 1980s, Professor Verity started his career as a software developer for the influential British personal computing pioneer Acorn Computers; the company that invented the ARM microprocessor which power nearly all smartphones today. He went on to study at the University of Cambridge (UK) and emerged from that institution in 1992 with a PhD in Pure Mathematics. From 1993-2000 he worked in the investment banking industry, as a mathematical consultant in derivative securities valuation and hedging, as a quantitative analyst in equity derivative for Deutsche Bank Australia and as Head of Equity Derivatives Trading for HSBC Australia.
His research interests lie in the mathematical fields of Homotopy Theory, sometimes known as “rubber sheet geometry,” and Category Theory, a kind of “theory of everything” for pure mathematics. With his collaborator Professor Emily Riehl (John Hopkins University, Baltimore USA) Professor Verity is recognised for developing and popularising model independent and synthetic approaches to ( ∞, 1) – category theory.

Professor Peter Eddey joined the Institute in 2013 after a career in public universities commencing in 1974. Prior appointments include Macquarie University (33 years), where he became Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Business and Economics. Other appointments include the University of New South Wales and Charles Sturt University, with overseas visiting appointments at the University of Washington (USA) and the University of Kent (UK).
Peter’s academic expertise is in the field of accounting and financial management. He has published in leading national and international research journals, including Abacus, Accounting and Finance, and the Journal of Accounting Research. Peter’s sole-authored textbook on corporate accounting achieved wide adoption by Australian universities for many years. While at Macquarie University, Peter was appointed the faculty director of graduate studies. Peter created and implemented several successful postgraduate programs in this role, including the Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting) and the Master of International Business in Sydney and Hong Kong. Over a long career in public universities, Peter has acted as a consultant to accounting firms, corporations and government bodies. Peter was Provost at IMC from 2018 to 2023, during which his role involved curriculum design, accreditation, quality assurance, and academic management. Peter is now Deputy President (Management) at IMC, with a role that includes a broad oversight of operations so that IMC can deliver quality education to students and value to all other Institute stakeholders.
Associate Professor Katherine Lindsay

Katherine Lindsay is an award-winning law teacher with over twenty-five years of experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Queensland, Newcastle Law School and the Australian National University. She has served twice as an elected member of Academic Senate at the University of Newcastle, and a member of the Coursework Postgraduate Programs Committee. She was the Deputy Head of the Newcastle Law School for 5 years and also served as Assistant Dean (Postgraduate and International) of the Faculty of Law.
Her research interests encompass Australian federal constitutional law and legal biography. She has researched and published in the discipline of law and in higher education as a member of the Peer-Assisted Teaching Scheme national research team under the leadership of Professor Angela Carbone.
Professor Peter Duffy

Professor Peter Duffy has a demonstrated record of exemplary leadership, management and outcomes in education, curriculum renewal, digital learning and academic /institutional transformation. He has been involved in the field of education for over three decades across a variety of roles. At present, he is the Deputy President (Education) at the Australian National Institute of Management and Commerce (IMC) and overseas a comprehensive portfolio of educational innovation, scholarship, policy and educational quality reform.
Prior to this, he has had a variety of roles in education, including the Director of the Teaching and Learning Centre at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, Inaugural Head of the Innovation Hub at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Inaugural Associate Director (Curriculum Development) at Victoria University in Australia and, “Special Assistant E-Learning” to the Vice President (Academic Development) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Professor Duffy is an internationally recognised expert in his field and has been successful in obtaining ~75 Million HKD (~70 Million RMB) in Teaching and Learning innovation grants. He has also been an invited presenter at many local and international events including an invited session chair at the GUIDE (Global Universities in Distance Education) International Forum in Rome, and an invited speaker and facilitator at the Australian Education Minster’s Awards. He has extensive educational expertise and has offered more than 75 Masterclasses across most areas of educational theory and practice, including Quality Assurance of Online Education, Learning Analytics, Blended Learning and Strategies for Organisational Transformation, to name a few.

Maya Hall joined IMC in 2024 after teaching English in Peru the previous year. She brings to the role international teaching and language learning experience, in addition to an understanding of the English language, academic communication and the university system from her Arts degree at Melbourne University, majoring in Anthropology with focus in Philosophy and Spanish. Maya has worked cross-culturally and is interested in providing academic and language support that centres the diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences of IMC students.
