Throughout Term 2, a collaborative effort between the Academic Learning Team, Librarian, Perth Learning Facilitator, Hobart Administrative Support Assistant, and Sydney English Language Support Officer brought students a unique Silent Study experience titled ‘Shut Up and Study Session’. Delivered both online and onsite, these sessions offered a quiet, structured environment designed to help students concentrate on their individual tasks and build consistent study habits using the Pomodoro Technique.
Each session began with a brief academic skills presentation—covering topics such as note-taking and referencing—followed by personal goal setting. After the focused study period, students were encouraged to reflect on their objectives and share their progress with peers, fostering a sense of accountability and community.
Student responses were very positive, with 40% rating the session as exceptional, 40% as excellent, and 20% as good.
Comments included:
“I hope more students knew about it.”
“It was very peaceful in the room and I studied quite well.”

One Hobart student stood out for his regular attendance and dedication to his personal study goals. Over the term, the sessions supported him in developing a strong and positive study routine—an inspiring example of how structure and support can make a meaningful impact.
