The Australian National Institute of Management and Commerce (IMC) was honoured to welcome His Excellency Sonam Tobgay, Ambassador of Bhutan to Australia, to the IMC South Eveleigh Campus on 15 October 2025. His Excellency’s visiting was organised by IMC’s alumni, the current IMC’s Marketing Specialist, Ms. Jurmey Choden Rinzin,
His Excellency was received by Dr. David Liu, Head of Student Recruitment and Business Development, along with Ms. Qingqing Hao, Senior Manager of Student Services, and Ms. Emma Zuo, Senior Director of Finance and Business Services. Â

A Warm Welcome and Shared Values
The visit commenced with a short presentation introducing IMC’s vision and initiatives, followed by a welcome speech from Dr. David Liu, who expressed IMC’s sincere appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit and the institute’s commitment to fostering close relationships with Bhutan and its students.
Ms. Qingqing Hao shared her personal experiences working with Bhutanese students, highlighting their warmth, humility, and strong sense of community. She noted that Bhutanese students are known for their helpfulness, respect for others, and deep pride in their cultural heritage, values that greatly enrich IMC’s multicultural student community, particularly at the Perth Campus, where many Bhutanese students study.
A Message from the Ambassador
In his remarks, His Excellency Sonam Tobgay expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by IMC and commended the institution for its quality academic offerings. He highlighted programs such as Financial Technology (FinTech) and Data Analytics as vital disciplines in preparing students for the evolving demands of the modern workforce.
His Excellency also shared his appreciation for IMC’s welcoming environment and its commitment to nurturing global perspectives through education and innovation. He remarked that institutions like IMC play a vital role in building bridges between nations by equipping students with the knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Building Lasting Connections
Following the discussions, His Excellency was taken on a guided campus tour, where he met staff and viewed IMC’s modern learning spaces. The visit served as an important step in strengthening ties between IMC and the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Canberra, reinforcing the shared goal of supporting Bhutanese students and fostering continued educational and cultural exchange between Australia and Bhutan.
