 Unit Overview:
This unit provides an introduction to risk management in institutions. Student will develop a deep understanding of why organisations need to manage risk, the identification and management of risks, as well as current issues in risk assessment and management. The unit also examines the relationship between corporate governance, internal control and risk management. The different stages within the overall risk management process, and internal and external influences are also considered.

Specific issues considered include understanding and setting a risk appetite framework, governance (the role of the board and senior management including chief risk officer), developing a risk-aware culture in the organisation, remuneration policy, strategic risks, reputational risks and the preparation of risk management plans.
