As Term 3 kicks off, the Academic Learning Team consisting of the Librarian, Perth Learning Facilitator, and English Language Support Officer, in collaboration with the Hobart Administrative Support Assistant organized a series of Orientation Mini Workshops both online and onsite.
Two online sessions were arranged for new students in Hobart and Perth. These sessions introduced students to the Library and English Language Support services, followed by an engaging Mini Workshop titled ‘Introduction to Sketchnoting’ led by the Librarian. It was a hands-on experience, and students participated enthusiastically.
At the Sydney campus, onsite Orientation was held across two days. Each day began with a campus tour arranged by the Student Experience team, followed by Orientation sessions covering Library and English Language Support. After the Orientation, Mini Workshops were delivered. ‘Introduction to Sketchnoting’ was featured on Day 1, offering students a creative and interactive way to enhance their learning. The Day 2 Mini Workshop, ‘How to Ace Your Study at IMC’, focused on goal setting, academic self-management skills, and study planning. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: 100% of attending students rated the sessions as Excellent. Some of their comments included ‘Meeting new people and the little introductions were great.’ All the things you are doing are already super inspiring. I would love to attend most of your workshops during my study period at IMC.’ ‘Everything was great, I really enjoyed my time being there today.’
Additionally, a brief session was held in Perth by the Learning Facilitator, introducing students to English and Library services, along with upcoming events.
Following Orientation, Term 3 commenced with a Week 1 Workshop on email etiquette, helping new students build confidence in professional communication from day one. The session walked students through the essentials of writing clear, effective emails and the student drafted real messages to IMC departments. The feedback ‘excellent’ highlighted the workshop’s practical value and relevance to their academic journey.
