Unit Overview:
This unit introduces students to data analytics in finance using the Python programming language and its ecosystem of packages (e.g., Pandas, Matplotlib, Numpy, Scikit-Learn, StatsModels, Tensorflow). Students will investigate a variety of empirical questions from different areas within finance including: investment analysis with a focus on stock prices and returns, performance evaluation and portfolio optimisation, corporate finance, real estate finance and financial intermediation. Students will learn basic Python coding relevant for data analysis and the steps involved in financial data analytics workflow. The unit will highlight how data analytics is applied in finance by focusing on practical problems currently confronting finance professionals.
