We are excited to announce Associate Professor Anil Hargovan as our new Director of Learning and Teaching.
Anil was an Associate Professor in the School of Management and Governance (formerly School of Business Law and Taxation) at UNSW and completed a 28 year academic career at UNSW. Anil has published over 120 articles and conference papers in the areas of corporate law and governance and insolvency law. His scholarly work has been cited by the Australian Governments advisory body – Corporations and Markets Advisory Committee (CAMAC), by the Australian Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services (PJC) and by the court in Australia and overseas, including a citation in a joint intervener brief filed in the Supreme Court of Canada. His most recent citation of a scholarly work was in the Supreme Court of WA in 2025 for a corporate law and governance article co-authored with Professor Michael Adams.
During his tenure at UNSW, Anil served as the Director and Assistant Director of Learning and Teaching in the School of Business and Taxation Law from 2018 to 2022, and was also a member of the Faculty Education Committee from 2015 to 2019.
Anil has authored and co-authored several books including Principles of Contemporary Corporate Governance (Cambridge University Press, 5th ed, 2024) and Australian Corporate Law (LexisNexis, 8th ed, 2023). He was the co-editor of the Insolvency Law Bulletin (practitioner publication).
Anil is the past President of the Society of Corporate Law Academics (2011–2013), a peak body representing scholars in the Asia-Pacific region. He is an active contributor to the Governance Institute of Australia and currently serves on two advisory committees dealing with corporate law and governance subjects. Anil has a BA and an LLB from the University of Natal (South Africa) and an LLM from Monash University (Australia).
