Unit Overview:

Following successful formal defence of the research proposal to the Confirmation Committee and formal approval of the proposed research plan, students will enter TRES6600 and commence their research programs in accordance with the approved research proposal and Ethics approval. This stage will typically involve commencement of research data gathering, which may typically include use of primary and secondary data, or both. During this phase, students will also further develop and refine their literature review and proposed analytical approaches, the latter of which will be typically qualitative, quantitative or a blend of such approaches. The principal milestone or “deliverable” for this unit will typically involve the completion of research data gathering and the submission of a “Mid-Candidature Report”, which is formally reviewed and approved as demonstrating satisfactory progress. The report should typically include details of data gathering, any preliminary results, any variations to the original approved research proposal or to the ethics approval. Importantly, the determination of “satisfactory progress” will require that the research program can be completed within the remaining period of candidature.
