Unit Overview:

TRES6500 serves as the entry unit of the research phase of the Master of Business Research. It follows the compulsory coursework which provides the necessary methodological knowledge and foundations for conducting higher degree research. As such, students undertaking this unit will normally have already developed a working understanding of the theoretical knowledge and methodological techniques and components which, together, are employed in the development and execution of the final research dissertation. The principal “milestone” or “deliverable” for successful completion of this unit is the preparation and presentation of a formal research proposal of 5 to 10,000 words and the successful ‘defence’ of that proposal to a formal “Confirmation Committee”. The proposal will normally include an introductory description of the research field; a formal “literature review”; specific research questions; a description of the proposed research methodology; proposed research budget and timelines. Students will also complete an application for Ethics Approval at this stage. Following a successful defence of the proposal, receipt of ethics approval and successful review by the Confirmation Committee, students will commence the formal research process.
