 Unit Overview:

This unit provides an overview of the key concepts of information system analysis and design involving software processes, tools and techniques used in software engineering, programming and analysis. It introduces the main theoretical and applied models associated with information system design and implementation. It also examines information system development lifecycles, the principles of software programming and the human factors that affect system design and use including users and integration. The development or acquisition of information system is also addressed as are the main criteria used to evaluate software systems. The unit introduces the main principles of project management of system projects and the planning and implementation of these projects. The development, testing, integration, installation and user acceptance phases of software within organisations are also examined. The unit will lead to an understanding of the functionality and design processes that underpin information system analysis and design as an area of knowledge.
