It introduces the concepts of timelines of data analytics and accounting automation and the use of digitised applications in a contemporary accounting context. The unit analyses the possibilities of implementing digitisation operations in accounting transactions and reviews the challenges and solutions this presents. It examines the principles of data capture, descriptive analytics and visualisation of data through the prism of stakeholder requirements from digitalised reporting. The concepts of accounting automation and utility are also assessed. Intelligent process automation, applications of robotic process automation and customisation of accounting services using digitalisation are explored. Tableau as a digitalisation and visualisation tool is also introduced and used in this unit.
